MARQUETTE, MI – Cairl Evert Moore, age 86, of Marquette, entered eternal life Friday, January 5, 2018, in the loving care of his family, and caregivers at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility.

Cairl was born in Campbell, Missouri, on January 10, 1931 and grew up there. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict, returning to St. Louis following his honorable discharge. On January 2, 1954, Cairl married his high school sweetheart, Sally S. Oxley, in Hernando, Mississippi. The couple made their first home in St. Louis.

Cairl began his university education at the University of Missouri, receiving his Degree in Education, majoring in Industrial Arts. He later taught at the junior high and university levels before returning to the University of Missouri where he received his Masters in Education and then his PhD in Education.

In 1968, the couple moved to Marquette where Cairl had accepted a teaching position at Northern Michigan University in the Industrial Technology Department. He retired in 1994. In retirement, he continued to teach lifelong learning programs until 2015. Throughout the years, Cairl enjoyed coaching softball and little league, himself being a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, served as a scoutmaster, and was very involved with 4-H programs and Future Farmers of America. He authored and published a book, Concrete Form Construction, and held a patent for a wood bending process. Both he and Sally were active members of the First Presbyterian Church where he served on numerous boards and committees and both were involved, along with their family, in many of the Harbor House programs. Cairl was also supportive of, and spent many hours assisting Sally with This Morning’s for You, a daycare program founded by Sally. Cairl and Sally not only led, but inspired.

Survivors include his children, Lisa (Roy Dodman) Moore of Seattle, WA, Laura (George) West of Weymouth, MA, David (Wendy) Moore of Negaunee, and Amy (George) Baranek of Marquette; his daughter- in-law, Keena Jones of AuTrain; his grandchildren, Alex, Myrah, Angel, and Cierra West, RJ and Max Moore, and Christine Kryscio; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cairl and his mother, Ora Mae; his wife, Sally in 2013; a son, Michael; his sisters, Verna, Hazel, and Mary; and his brother, Lester.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 20, beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Rev. Larry Jones will officiate. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
