William ‘Jody’ Burns

William Burns

BIG BAY, MI – William Joseph (Jody) Burns, 61, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his mother’s residence in Big Bay while he was watching football.

Jody spent his childhood enjoying the Big Bay area and all it had to offer.

After graduating from Marquette Senior High School in 1974, Jody decided to enroll in the police academy and after completion was hired by the Negaunee Township Police Department where he worked for a short time. Jody soon took on another career with the Marquette County Road Commission where he worked for 30 plus years retiring as a foreman.

Jody was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting seasons, especially partridge and deer, but was always ready to go out into the woods for whatever may be in season. He also loved to fish, golf, play baseball and softball, anything to get him outdoors. When he wasn’t hunting or playing golf, Jody could be found riding in his golf cart around Big Bay, going to the softball tournaments or just visiting friends.

Jody was preceded in death by his father, Forrest in 2014; and his brother, Timothy Burns; uncles, Noel and Dennis Burns and Mike Gasper.

He is survived by his mother, Iris Burns; daughter, Callie Burns of Texas; sister, Karen (Dan) Burns – DeForest of Big Bay; and brothers, Leonard (Jean) Burns of Iron Mountain and Michael Burns of Marquette; aunts, Jean Burns, LaVonne Gasper, Carol Burns and LeAnne (Wade) Cornelia; one grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends including a very close friend, Pat Havel Sr.

A celebration of his life will be celebrated at the Lumberjack Tavern in Big Bay later in January.
