HARVEY, MI. – Rosalie L. Oakland, age 80, of Harvey, entered eternal life Thursday morning, December 21, 2017, at home, in the loving, comforting care of her family and Lake Superior Hospice.

Born March 18, 1937, in Marquette, a daughter of Leopold and Helena (Rosin) Weiger, Rosalie was raised on the family homestead on County Road 480 near Beaver Grove. Very early in life she learned the value of work and developed a strong work ethic which remained with her the rest of her life. At age five, she helped drive the tractor at the family farm. Rosalie also had an early talent and inclination toward music, playing the violin, piano, and accordian by ear and also having a love of singing, particularly yodeling. She graduated from Graveraet High School, Class of 1955, and then married Wallace Oakland.

The couple made their first home in Marquette where Rosalie worked at several jobs while raising her family. For many years she was employed as a secretary at the Bancroft Dairy and later for Reinhart Foods from where she retired. In retirement, she still kept busy, serving as an in-home caregiver. Her hobbies and special interests centered around family, music, and gardening. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Green Garden and belonged to the Hiawatha Snowmobile Club with her husband.

Survivors include her children, Kathryn (John) Iery of Harvey and Robert (Anita) Oakland of Skandia; a daughter-in-law, Susan Oakland of Marquette; her loving grandchildren, Helana (Lucas) Johnson, Heidi (Anthony) Dorvinen, Stacie (Brian) Humm, Tom (Jess) Pegeneau, Robert Oakland, Jacob Oakland, Rosalie (Andrew) Bannasch, Michelle (Mark) Cavin, Terri (Steve) Lorens, Kenny Mattson, Mikki (Scott) Tiziani; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Green Garden, on Wednesday, December 27, at 1:00 pm. Rev. John Ruege, pastor, will officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends at a reception to follow in the church parish hall. Spring interment will be made in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
