Jay Albert Moberg

Jay Albert Moberg

PORTLAND, OR – April 28, 1924 – November 18, 2017 Jay died peacefully with his daughters by his side. He was born in Ishpeming, Michigan, and he graduated from Negaunee High School where he began dating Jean Lindberg in 1939. Jean and Jay were married in 1944 while Jay was serving in the Army Air Corps. At the end of WWII, Jay returned to Marquette and attended Northern Michigan, earning a degree in Education and Chemistry. After various jobs, Jay began a 30-year career at Continental Can Company in 1955, and moved his family to Portland, Oregon where he resided at the time of his death. Jean and Jay returned frequently to Negaunee to visit family. The U.P. was extremely important to Jay, and he was wearing his NMU shirt the day he died.

Jay completely adored his beloved Jean until her death on July 13, 2016. The day before she passed away, she told her husband and daughters, “I’ve had a wonderful life.” They had celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary with their girls that year.

Jay is survived by his daughters, Kris Vanderburg and Patti Mosbacher, and their husbands of Portland, Oregon. He has 3 grandchildren: K-Jay, Jenny, and Katie, and one great-grandson, Isaiah. All grandchildren are living in Oregon. In addition, Jay is survived by his dear sister-in-law, Pat Lowney of Negaunee, and her 3 daughters.

Also, Jay leaves behind the sons and daughters of his cherished sisters, Irene Wealton and Edna Denofre, both formerly of Ishpeming. He is also predeceased by his oldest sister, Anne Moberg, of Virginia, Minnesota.

Our dad was the most wonderful father, a tremendously loyal and loving husband, a fun and loving grandpa, a caring brother, and a favorite uncle to nieces and nephews.

He was a treasured friend to so many with his optimism, dependability, kind heart, and great sense of humor. He is irreplaceable, and he and our darling mother will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
