Sherman Spencer

ISHPEMING, MI – Sherman Spencer, 85, of Cedar St., Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Wednesday night, August 9, 2017 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Sherman was born May 25, 1932 in Negaunee to Lloyd and Ethel (Delarye) Spencer, attended Negaunee schools and was a lifelong area resident. He worked several jobs during his working career including time with Kohler, Cliffs Dow and Cohodas Brothers.

Mr. Spencer was a former member of the Negaunee Eagles. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, both at the ‘Golden Pond’ hunting camp as well as hunting trips to Canada. He also liked gardening and was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers. Sherman was a skillful carpenter and handyman.

Surviving are his son, Scott (Staci) Mannila of Ishpeming; daughters, Becky (Wayne) Hill of Palmer and Gail (Dean) Aho of Iron Mountain; step-sons, Edward (Debbie) Mannila of Ishpeming and Raymond (Stephanie) Mannila of Americus, GA; step-dau- ghters: Shirley Mannila and Lois (Ray Bergman) McIntyre both of Ishpeming and Vickie (Steve) Piirainen of Gwinn; 7 grandchildren: Jackie Swanson, David (Bridget) Swanson, Angela (Jeremy) Hibbard, Joseph Raisanen, Dean Carl Aho, Mindy Maddock Lewis and Misti Aho; 4 step-grandchil- dren: Pete Puska, Amber (Justin) St. Antoine and Bethany and EJ Mannila; numerous great-grand- children; brother, Frank (Dee St. Andre) Spencer of Ishpeming; sister, Susan (Ralph) Quayle of Ishpeming; significant other, Virginia Mannila of Ishpeming; and numer- ous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd ‘Junior’ and Paul Spencer; sisters: Mavis Herringa, Barbara Quayle, Donna Jean Johnson, Diane Spencer and Ruth King; and a step-grandson, Adam Johnson.

Sherman’s family extends a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care provided.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, August 17th at Koskey Funeral Home. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00 pm until the time of services at 4:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, and also at a pot-luck dinner at the Negaunee Eagles immediately following services.
