Thomas Engelhard

ISHPEMING, MI – Thomas R. Engelhard, age 83, of 311 W. Ridge St. Ishpeming, MI passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Lighthouse at Ishpeming Health and Rehabilitation Center while in the loving care of his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Thomas was born on October 9, 1933 in Crosby, MN to the late Jake and Leona (Rochon) Engelhard. Shortly after being born his family moved to Ishpeming where Thomas grew up through his childhood years and graduated from Ishpeming High School.

After graduation Thomas joined the United States Army in July of 1953 and was honorably discharged in June of 1955.

Thomas moved to Waukegan, IL and worked as a mechanic in the concrete industry for 35 years. Upon retirement he and his wife Lornell moved back to Ishpeming where they lived for 19 years. Thomas loved fishing and hunting. He was very loving, caring, and will be remembered for his big heart and his kindness.

Thomas is survived by his 2 children – Tracey (Michael) Erickson of Ishpeming and Steve Engelhard of Winthrop Harbor, IL. 2 grandchildren- Max Bailes and Thomas Engelhard, 2 brothers – Jim (Pat) Engelhard and John (Jean) Engelhard, close friends that were like a son and daughter, Ralph and Carolyn Uhl and their children that were like grandsons, Dan (Ashlee), Erik and Mitch Uhl, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters – Lois and Eve Engelhard.

A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery at a later date.
