Agnes M. ‘Snooks’ Murphy
SKANDIA Agnes M. “Snooks” Murphy, age 81, former Skandia resident, entered eternal life Thursday evening, September 29, 2016 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility, in the loving, comforting care of her family.
Born in Marquette on January 27, 1935, a daughter of Leonard P. and Agnes C. (Coleman) Thompson, Snooks was raised in Marquette and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1952 graduate of the Graveraet High School and then worked for a time as a nurse’s aide at the former St. Luke’s Hospital.
On February 21, 1953 she married Harold J. Murphy and together the couple made their home and raised their children in Skandia. During her married life, Snooks held a variety of jobs while being a homemaker. In her leisure, Snooks enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, helping out at her church, and was known for her delicious fudge making abilities. Snooks had a great love of the angels and collected angel items. Snooks was a member of the Silver Creek Church in Harvey and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by five daughters, Terri (William) Wills of Gwinn, Jean (Rick) Shaw of Dukes, Monica “Beth” (Dan) Virta of Sundell, Mary Kay “Casey” (Mark) Murphy of Arvada, CO, and Laurie (Fred) Beauchamp of Skandia; her grandchildren, William “BJ” (Kelly) Wills, Mindy (Brian) Moyle, Kristi (Kim) Charlebois, Katie (Rich) Wares, T.J. (Annette Arsenault) Murphy, Tawni (Matthew) Bell, Valerie (John) Jordan, and Fred Beauchamp Jr; great-grandchildren, Isobel, Azlyn, Dani Marie, Gwen, Vincent, Hunter, Ariana, AdaLyn, and a baby Bell due in January; a sister, Beverly Holt of California; and several nieces and nephews.
Snooks was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Frank Staricka; husband, Harold J. Murphy; and her son, Michael Murphy.
Friends may call at the Silver Creek Church in Harvey on Monday, October 3, beginning at 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm Monday evening. Pastor Kevin Taylor will officiate. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Activity Fund at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
