Ronald Franklin Guidebeck
BIG BAY, MI. – Ronald Franklin Guidebeck, 83, of Big Bay, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at UP Health System -Marquette following a brief illness.
Ron was born on November 10, 1932 in Los Angeles, California, a son of the late Theodore and Florence (Sharp) Guidebeck. He worked as an underground miner for many years including the Tracy Mine, the Tilden Mine as well as other mines owned and operated by CCI.
In his free time, Ron was known to be an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed spending time at his home in Big Bay on Lake Superior. He proudly served his country with the Army National Guard and was a lifetime member of the Big Bay Sportsman’s Club.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Guidebeck, whom he married on April 3, 1954 at Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee; three children, Robert Jess (Teresa DeVerney) Guidebeck of Skandia, Sharon Elaine (Patrick Havel) Guidebeck of Big Bay and Scott Ronald (Tricia) Guidebeck of Harvey; nine grandchildren, Garrett (Danielle) Guidebeck, Adam Guidebeck, Matthew Bertram, Courtney, Kimber, Ashton, Lexi, Kobie and Adyson Guidebeck; three great grandchildren, Cooper, Tabitha and Carter Guidebeck; one sister, Martha Flaherty of Pensacola, FL; also several nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Guidebeck.
A funeral service will be held in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home of Marquette on Thursday, May 19th at 1 p.m. The Guidebeck family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home. Immediately afterward, a luncheon will be served in the funeral home. Private burial will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
A celebration of Ron’s life will also take place on Saturday, May 21st beginning at 2 p.m. in the Lumberjack Tavern in Big Bay.
