Brother and sister become doctors

The grandson of Mary and Darryl (Panch) Waara of Palmer completed his three year emergency medicine residency at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Austin Waara, the salutatorian of West Iron County in 2013, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in kinesiology. He was an Angel scholar at U of M. From there, he went onto Wayne State Medical School in emergency medicine in Detroit. He starts working as an emergency medicine doctor in August in Minneapolis at North Memorial and Methodist hospitals through the doctor’s group EPPA. This last May, Austin “hooded” his sister who graduated from Cooper Medical School at Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey in obstetrics/gynecology, Madeline graduated at the top of her OB/GYN program. She graduated as valedictorian from West Iron County in 2015 and the University of Michigan in 2019 with a double major in biomolecular science and Spanish. She started her residency in June in the OB/GYN program at West Penn in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their parents are Jonny and Barbara Waara of Iron River, Michigan.
