Honor Credit Union awards local scholarships

MARQUETTE — In its annual Community Commitment Scholarship program, Honor Credit Union recognized and supported two high school students from the area.

Marquette Senior High School’s Josie Matheny and Negaunee High School’s Mick Kumpula both won the scholarship of $2,500.

HCU’s program aims to recognize and support high school seniors who have demonstrated dedication to their communities alongside academic excellence.

Matheny and Kumpula were two of the 12 total students picked through a blind selection process.

In a written press release, HCU officials said the 2024 recipients of the scholarship “embody the values of service, leadership and academic excellence.”

It further read, “Their exemplary contributions serve as an inspiration to others, reflecting the credit union’s dedication to supporting and uplifting local youth.”
