Audrey Wright, a senior majoring in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management at Northern Michigan University, was one of four students from across Michigan selected for the 2023 John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship. The John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship was launched in 2018 and celebrates college students from around the state who are committed to engaging new audiences and new generations with Michigan’s natural resources and rich outdoor heritage. Wright is the third NMU student to be selected for the award. Previously recognized were Jersey Hoover (2022) and Jacklyn Lenten (2019). The four winners were selected from a highly-qualified pool of 30 applicants, representing 14 Michigan colleges and universities. Recipients were selected based on their clear passion for Michigan and its outdoor opportunities as well as their demonstrated commitment of introducing others to those opportunities, such as fishing, hunting, camping, boating and wildlife watching. The winners each received a $1,000 scholarship to support their 2023-2024 academic expenses.
