Westwood High School student receives MSU scholarship

Silvana Klobucher

ISHPEMING: Ninth-grade Westwood High School student, Silvana Klobucher, daughter of Shanna Klobucher and Joes Klobucher, has been awarded a $2,000 Michigan State University Pre-College Achievement Scholarship.

This is a great honor, as only 50-60 of these scholarships are awarded annually by the university. Students in 8th to 11th grades for the 2022-23 school year who attended an MSU pre-college program were eligible to apply for this award. In June 2023, Silvana participated in 4-H Exploration Days at MSU, one of six pre-college programs offered by MSU Extension 4-H Youth Development.

“MSU pre-college programs help youth explore possible career interests,” says Marquette County 4-H Program Coordinator Liana Pepin. “They are great fun, very educational with lots of hands-on learning, and help connect young people with university faculty and other resources.” MSU pre-college programs also help youth envision their future so they can wisely choose their high school classes and prepare for college.

Youth who have participated in one of the pre-college programs and fall within the grade range for eligibility are invited to compete.

Selection for this scholarship is based on application and student essay. The scholarship is applied toward the student’s first year at MSU as a degree-seeking student.

The pre-college programs annually offered by MSU Extension 4-H Youth Development are: 4-H Capitol Experience, 4-H Spartan Coding Camp, 4-H Exploration Days, 4-H Great Lakes & Natural Resources Camp, 4-H Animal & Veterinary Science Camp, World Food Prize Michigan Youth Institute.

For more information on these 4-H pre-college programs, please contact Liana Pepin at deisenro@msu.edu. To discover other MSU pre-college programs, please visit Spartan Youth Programs at http://www.spartanyouth.msu.edu.

You’ll find a multitude of programs that can help youth develop valuable skills, make new friends, and taste college life.
