MARQUETTE–All those who volunteer their own time to help others receive the reward of fulfillment for doing good deeds — but some get more.
The nonprofit volunteering organization, United Way, holds its annual Yoopers United Summer Volunteer Program — with the promise of prizes — to encourage and incentivize volunteers of all ages.
Grand prize winner Grace Kilbane volunteered for the Great Lakes Recovery’s Run for Recovery as well as Marquette County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build. Thanks to United Way, Kilbane received gift cards to Dunkin’ Donuts and a hotel on Mackinac Island.
Other businesses donated prizes for weekly winners. Sponsors include Thomas Theatre Group, Marquette, Tadych’s Marketplace Foods, Marquette, Dunkin’ Donuts, Buffalo Wild Wings and Provisions MQT.
The six weekly winners including Kilbane were Becky Sandstrom, Chris Durley, Karen Thompson, Joan Nystrom and Spencer Szyniszewski.
