Keitha Callanan, National Defender Chair of the Onagomingkway Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, traveled across the western Upper Peninsula this past May to hand out special recognition to several high school students. The recipients of the DAR Bronze Outstanding Cadet Award were Heidi Oja, above, JROTC North Star Battalion of Calumet High School on May 10,; Kelly Staricha, below, Hawk Battalion at Houghton High School May 12; and Tyler Smith, bottom of the JROTC Red Devil Battalion of Luther Wright High School in Ironwood on May 23. These students were chosen for their demonstration of loyalty, leadership, service and patriotism and for satisfying scholastic and military achievement in their respective programs.
