Two members of the Gladstone August Mattson Squad #71 of the Sons of the American Legion were recently honored for 40 years and 45 years of continuous membership. Donald Couillard was saluted for 40 years and John Pickard for 45 years. "Clearly, reaching this milestone is a very special occasion" said Past State of Michigan Sons Commander Zack Pendell from the Post #170 Three Rivers. "It is also a very special occasion for the local squad since it is a testimony of their loyalty to the Sons of the American Legion over the years.

"Both Donald and John are valued members, both having served as commander and various offices in the squadron. Their continued contribution is vital for the Sons to continue to be successful in helping our fellow Legionnaires and veterans."

According to Pendell " the Sons is the best program the Legion ever established as we take care of all other programs the Legion sponsors. "We are here because of the veterans, so lets help a veteran whenever we can".

The Sons of the American Legion was founded for preserving the American Legion traditions and programs while improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.
