Negaunee Elks bring veterans to Sawyer event
On Aug. 2-3, the Negaunee Elks arranged to have 31 veterans from the D J Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette attend the Commemorative Air Force Fly in at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. The veterans home bused 31 veterans over twp days to attend the fly in to view World War II bombers and trainer planes. Each day, six Negaunee Elks helped vets get out to the planes and helped with lunch. Each veteran was provided with souvenirs from the Commemorative Air Force. This was made possible with the ENF Freedom Grant. Photo below: Elks helpers from the left: Dave Lander, John Thomas, Kristen Knapp, Jean Downey, Kathy Enright and Ron Downey.
