UPSDA’s Beverly Stroh Award presented to Pat Woods and Pat Torreano, longtime UP200 volunteers
MARQUETTE –The Beverly Stroh Award is given each year by the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association to individuals who have volunteered to support the UP200 and affiliated races.
Beverly Stroh was an avid supporter of sled dog sports. The award was first given out in 2011. The award is given annually to a person or persons who have volunteered for the races in the same manner as Beverly Stroh did, unselfishly and tirelessly.
The award was presented Feb. 21 at the awards banquet for the UP200 held at The Holiday Inn.
Pat Torreano was president of the UP200 for 17 years and involved for more than 20 years. She helped the race navigate through many changes, which all helped make the event a huge success.
Pat Woods also served for more than 20 years involved with musher registration, scheduling vet checks, working with mushers and volunteers and a variety of other projects.
It is fair to say that the UP200 event would not be the success it is today without the input of Pat Torreano and Pat Woods, according to a press release.
Both of the award recipients said the award meant a lot to them because of the respect they had for Beverly Stroh.
Darlene Walch and Ross Anthony of the UPSDA both said there could not be two more deserving people to receive the award than Pat Torreano and Pat Woods.
