Zero Degrees Gallery recognized as nonprofit

After 12 years as a for-profit organization, Zero Degrees Galley has been recognized as a non-profit by the State of Michigan. The gallery board of Directors had its first meeting as a non-profit corporation under the new leadership of Marlene Wood. Marlene is an oil painter in the galley and replaces Norman Hefke, a woodturner, who held the position of galley chair for the past six years. The Galley hopes to be further recognized as a charitable organization, with 501(c)(3) status. The gallery will increase its activities related to promoting the visual arts in the local community through demonstrations, art instruction and discussion both at the gallery and other locations. Zero Degrees Gallery is a community based art gallery with 41 contributing artists located at 525 North 3rd Street in Marquette. The Gallery is open 10-6 T-S and 11-5 on Sundays. In the photo, Norm Hefke, past chair of Zero Degrees Gallery, passes the gavel on to the new gallery chair Marlene Wood.
