Gladstone Sons of American Legion honored for achievement of 100% in membership

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone August Mattson Sons of the American Legion Squad #71 were recently honored with a Plaque Commemorating the Achievement of 100% in membership.

Every squadron that achieves 100% by Detachment Convention will receive the award which will be dis-played in the Post. There is also a certificate which the August Mattson Squadron #71 can keep in its file for the history of the squadron.

The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion The S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and all are eligible for membership in The American Legion. Together, members of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion make up what is known as The Legion Family. All three organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation’s children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.

New Officers of the Gladstone Squad have been elected for the upcoming year and they continue to be active in the Post and Community helping with the Taco Tuesdays, Once a month all you can eat Breakfast and Steak feeds plus the annual Dates for the S.A.L. Croatian Chicken dinners.

The Gladstone Sons give to the Gladstone St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry every year with money coming from the Chicken dinners and through membership dues.

The Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Michigan represents over 32,000 members in the State of Michigan. The Sons of The American legion follows closely and supports “The Four Pillars” of The American Legion; veteran rehabilitation, Americanism, child welfare, and national security
