Local Scout achieves Eagle Scout Award
MARQUETTE — Ian William Parkkonen, 17, of Marquette, has earned the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement award, the Eagle Scout Award.
Parkkonen is one of only approximately 6 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank.
Each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project to earn his Eagle.
Ian has been in Scouts since the age of 6 and is an alumnus of local Pack 308. Currently, he is a member of Troop 302, chartered by Superiorland Kiwanis. He is an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette, employed at Subway, and is an Honor Roll student (senior) at Marquette Senior High School.
After high school, Ian will be attending Northern Michigan University. He is the son of Marcia and Bill Parkkonen of Marquette.
Recently, he was recognized in ceremonies with close friends and family.
