Marquette Rotary Club Foundation awards scholarships

At a recent meeting, $4,750 in scholarships were presented from the Marquette Rotary Club Foundation. Recipients are awarded to Marquette area students recommended by their high school and must attend an Upper Peninsula institution of higher education.

The recipient are as follows:

Katherine Waters is fourth year recipient at Northern Michigan University whose major is sociology. She has published several articles in her field, is a teaching assistant, and has a 4.0 grade point average. She plans to pursue a masters degree in public policy at the University of Michigan.

Macy Pawielski is a third year student at Michigan Technological University majoring in management information systems and minoring in Spanish. She is doing a virtual summer internship with 3M in Minneapolis. She founded and is president of the Management Information System club at MTU which provides programs and speakers in that field. She is on the dean’s list.

Gloria Talley will be a first year at NMU preparing for a career in veterinary medicine.

Trevor Salmon is a first-year recipient. He will study welding at NMU’s College of Technology and Occupational Sciences.

In High School, he was a stand out on the MAHS soccer team.

Organizers thank the Marquette Rotary Club Foundation trustees: Jack Frost, president; Joe Meyskens, vice-president; Sally Davis, secretary; Ken Beck, treasurer; and trustees Russ Magnaghi, Sam Bennett, and Sam Elder for administering this program of the Rotary Club of Marquette. The fund was started in 1982 with Burt Parolini as chair. The fund has a corpus of $183,700 and has distributed $34,500 in scholarships since 2014.
