MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present the play “Significant Other.” Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and Feb. 19-Feb. 22 at the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre.

A “Theatre for All” performance aimed at adults who are on the autism spectrum or have sensory issues will be presented at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15. Free admission to the “Theatre for All” performance has been made possible through private donor support.

The play concerns the lives of four friends in their late ’20s and their search for relationships in 21st century New York City. Jordan is single, and finding Mr. Right is much easier said than done. While surrounding himself with his close group of friends, it comes to pass that the only thing harder than looking for love is supporting the loved ones around him. Through the play, the audience also meets Jordan’s grandmother, coworkers, potential lovers and his friends’ future husbands.

Sophomore fisheries and wildlife management major Marcus Bechek portrays the leading male character Jordan in the play.

“I relate to Jordan’s eccentric, outgoing personality,” said Bechek in an NMU press release. “There are many times where he does a lot of random things and I definitely am like, ‘Oh, that’s something I do on a daily basis,’ and I definitely can connect with his attitude.”

An opening night party will follow the Thursday, Feb. 13 performance outside the Black Box Theatre. The party will feature food and beverages, a photo booth and a meet and greet with the cast, crew and artistic staff.

Tickets are $17 for the general public; $12 for NMU faculty/staff, seniors, and military; $10 for students; and $5 for NMU students. Tickets are available for purchase through NMU EZ Ticket outlets.
