Rotary Club raises funds for Hurley Park Playground
Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli and Community Services Director Jon Swenson, right, accept a contribution of $15,800 from co-president Michele Butler of the Rotary Club of Marquette for the Hurley Park Playground. While campaigning in South Marquette, Rotarian Sally Davis (second from left) received input from Len DesJardins (left) about the need to upgrade the playground at Hurley Field. Sally brought the need to the club and Michele volunteered to provide supplies for an ice cream social at Presque Isle. The event raised about $4,000 and matches from the Rotary district, other Rotary clubs, and community organizations and individuals brought the total to $15,800. A grant from the Shiras Foundation provided an additional $6,000. Also pictured are neighborhood kids who promoted the project: Rocky, Emma, and Charlotte.
