Andronis, Goodman are recipients of Baldini scholarship
MARQUETTE — Mary Antonia Andronis, pictured above, and Madeline Goodman, below, are the recipients of the 2019 Tom Baldini Scholarship, Connect Marquette announced.
The scholarship was created in 2018 to recognize members of the local community who have shown an interest in community and civic engagement. Baldini, an active supporter of Connect Marquette, passed away in December 2017.
The recipients will receive a one-year Connect Marquette membership, attendance to the 2020 Professional Development Conference and a ticket to one Economic Club of Marquette County dinner of their choosing.
In 2017, Andronis, an alumnus of Northern Michigan University, founded Comunitaria Language School, which offers language classes to all ages at affordable rates. She also offers two annual scholarships of her own, and holds knitting and craft nights, talks on immigration and topics concerning the Americas, and an Anishinaabemowin workshop in collaboration with local tribes. Comunitaria also sponsors a monthly drop-in Spanish conversation group that meets informally at breweries and coffeehouses.
Goodman, also an NMU alumnus, in 2018 opened Madgoodies Studio, which promotes local artists and creatives. She is a member of the city of Marquette Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, which advises the Marquette City Commission in its efforts to support and empower arts, culture and the creative community.
