ISHPEMING– Marquette County Medical Care Facility announces Krista Fuller has received a 2019 Gary Easton Scholarship Award from the Michigan County Medical Care Facilities Council. She has been a licensed practical nurse at Marquette County Medical Care Facility since and is pursuing a degree in nursing at Bay de Noc Community College.

“We are proud to see Krista honored for her academic achievements, and we wish her well on her college studies,” said Jerry Hubbard, Administrator. “We are pleased that our association with the Michigan County Medical Care Facilities Council has made this scholarship available to our employees and their family members.”

Recipients of the Easton Scholarship must be employed at a MCMCFC member facility for at least one year, or be the spouse or child of an employee, and be majoring in a health or human services field of study at a junior or senior level with a minimum 3.0 grade point average or accepted into a certified nursing program. The applicant’s extracurricular activities and community service experiences are also taken into consideration.

Since 2000, the MCMCFC Scholarship Fund has awarded nearly $140,000 in scholarship funds to 156 students. Our three scholarship programs (see below) combined are funded through the organization’s annual golf outing, silent auction and raffle held during our Spring Management Conference and have awarded just over $163,000 to nearly 200 deserving students. In 2018, the scholarship was renamed for Gary Easton, long-serving administrator of Lapeer County MCF and coordinator of the scholarship program, annual golf outing and chairman of the MCMCFC Scholarship Committee.

In addition to the Easton Scholarships, MCMCFC partners annually with the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation on a scholarship program and collaborates with Ferris State University on the Mike Shira Memorial Scholarship.

The Michigan County Medical Care Facilities Council is the statewide association of county-owned medical care facilities dedicated to the care and treatment of those patients who must be released from an acute care hospital, but are still in need of skilled nursing services, therapeutic and/or rehabilitation services.
