During his own track days, Jeff Nelson was coached by Gordy Chinn at Westwood High School. “Gordy touched my life,” Nelson said in a press release. “He cultivated the character of his athletes.” Nelson now coaches and leaves that impression on his own athletes in Louisville, Colorado. Nelson and his wife, Paula, established a scholarship fund agreement with the Community Foundation of Marquette County in 2009 to create an endowment pool for four separate scholarships: the Edna Arsenault Scholarship, the Gordon Chinn Scholarship, the Suzan Chinn Scholarship and the Dr. Jim Lehto Scholarship. Each offers graduating seniors of Westwood, Ishpeming and Negaunee high schools scholarship money to continue their education.
