Linda Sutton, MD, joins UPHS Marquette Board of Trustees

Linda Sutton

MARQUETTE — UP Health System-Marquette has welcomed Linda Sutton, MD, as a member of the UPHS-M Board of Trustees.

“It is a genuine privilege to serve on the board; I see a lot of the great strengths in the Upper Peninsula and Marquette in particular,” said Dr. Sutton in a news release. “The healthcare professionals of UPHS-Marquette are passionate, and the hospital means a lot to those healthcare professionals and the community. I want to make sure the hospital continues to deliver the very best care to the community. In this healthcare environment, it’s a real challenge for hospitals in rural areas to be able to do that, so we also want to make sure the right leaders are at the table achieving the best of what’s possible in health care.”

For 19 years, Sutton has been the Medical Director for the Duke Cancer Network, Duke University Health System. In the last five years of this role, she has been affiliated with UPHS-Marquette.

“I feel so connected to the community and the environment through my work with the DCN,” Sutton said of UPHS – Marquette. “I’m really excited to have a broader role with the organization itself.”

Sutton has also served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine for 24 years and as the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Network Services within the Duke Health System for the last four years. She formerly served as a member of the boards of trustees at Person Memorial Hospital and Twin County Medical Center for five years and served as the president of the North Carolina Oncology Association.

“I’m hopeful that I can be helpful to the Board and Leadership Team with my leadership experience in overseeing complex clinical systems involving multiple sites in oncology, but also in helping the organization to plan strategically for the winds of change in healthcare,” said Dr. Sutton. “That means, as leaders in the organization we need to appreciate the opportunities for growth and understand the very real challenges healthcare faces, in order to effectively move the organization forward.”
