Lisa Basanese tapped as IM school board president

IRON MOUNTAIN — Lisa Basanese has been chosen as president of the Iron Mountain Board of Education. She takes over for Rob Langsford, who nominated her for the position during the reorganizational meeting. Lisa Carollo was elected vice president, succeeding Lisa Basanese. Michigan marks School Board Recognition Month

HOUGHTON — The state of Michigan has designated January as School Board Recognition Month. It has been for 35 years even though many Michigan residents may not be aware of it. The Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) had been at the forefront of that for nearly four decades. IM seeks grant to identify lead service lines

IRON MOUNTAIN — A state grant program that helps communities identify lead service lines in water systems will receive an application from the city of Iron Mountain seeking nearly $600,000. The program administered by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy is meant to help communities take advantage of federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law dollars for lead line replacement, which are available through fiscal year 2027. Storm hits Houghton County the hardest

The winter storm that has extensively impacted Houghton County appears to be a localized event, at least in the four-county area. County Undersheriff/Jail Administrator Tonya Stefonich, said Keweenaw County did not suffer any storm conditions, estimating that since Friday, the county received perhaps a foot of snow. “It wasn’t as bad in our county as it was in others,” Stefonich said. “I don’t think the storm impacted us at all.” She said there were no calls related to accidents or vehicles off the road.
