Four bids were received to remove 21 trees: North Bound Tree Service LLC of Gaastra, $3,200; First Down Tree Service of Iron Mountain, $4,500; Quintin Olson Enterprises LLC of Quinnesec, $4,950; and St. Vincent Tree Service of Niagara, Wis., $6,000. EAGLE RIVER — Keweenaw County Sheriff Curt Pennala announced on Tuesday that the county is seeking public input in the early stages of planning for a Keweenaw County Emergency Operations Center. An online survey is available for interested members of the public to complete and a public meeting is planned for from 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at the county courthouse. TROY — Three Dickinson County townships have approved property tax guarantees and decommissioning agreements for Circle Power’s planned Groveland Mine Solar project, the company said Tuesday. All three local governments have accepted a plan that would give a guaranteed minimum of $12 million to local governments –including the townships, Dickinson County, and local schools, Circle Power said in a news release. ESCANABA — The Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department recently named Craig Lancour their 2023 Fireman of the Year. Fire Chief Matt Smith, who has been with the department since 2017, said that Gladstone started honoring a firefighter of the year a few years back as a way of recognizing those members who have gone “above and beyond” or “assisted the department in some unique way.” Members of the department voted for one outstanding individual among their ranks, a practice that Gladstone Public Safety Director Ron Robinson said began in 2019.
