HOUGHTON — A Wisconsin woman has been declared competent to stand trial for the December murder of a Hancock Township man. Margaret Kempainen, 50, of Hartland, Wisconsin appeared via videoconference for a review hearing in 97th District Court Friday. She is accused of helping to kill her father-in-law, Alvin Kempainen. The 86-year-old was found dead in his home on Dec. 19 with a gunshot wound to the head. She is charged with homicide — open murder and conspiracy to commit open murder.
