Hermansville’s IXL Museum to honor charter board member

HERMANSVILLE — The IXL Historical Museum Board will honor its late former charter member Eugene “Geno” Arduin Jr. on Sunday. Geno’s Vintage Day is planned from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Hermansville museum complex, W5551 River St. They will unveil the memorial plaque honoring Arduin that will be on permanent display in the main office building. IXL Board Secretary Janey Hudson noted the board created a “storyboard” that showed Arduin’s dedication to the museum. Julie Cischke was appointed to the board, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Vice President Scott Leonard. “I was made aware of the need, and I am passionate about supporting our community and our kids, and it just seemed like a way I could do something,” she said. IRON MOUNTAIN — A proposal to increase compensation for Iron Mountain City Council members that was narrowly defeated Aug. 6 is likely to be on the ballot again Nov. 5. The council voted 5-0 Monday to present the same language to the Michigan attorney general’s office for review, hoping to meet the ballot deadline. ESCANABA — As the summer winds down, the virus responsible for COVID-19 is still hanging on in Escanaba.According to the Sentinel Wastewater Epidemiology Evaluation Project, the most recent sample from the Escanaba Wastewater Treatment Plant, collected Aug. 5, contained more DNA from the virus than 26% of all samples collected at the site since the city began participating in the program in August 2021.
