Camp teaches new hunters how to handle deer kills

L’ANSE — The Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College (KBOCC), Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission and Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC) Natural Resources Department collaborated together to host the fourth Waawaashkeshi (Deer) Camp on Nov. 9 to teach new hunters of all ages how to gut, skin and process harvested deer. The camp went into detail on how to butcher deer in order to self sustain oneself with meat cutting skills. MANISTIQUE — An extremely well-maintained trail system in Schoolcraft County was designed to offer recreational and educational opportunities for people of all ages. A few miles northeast of Manistique, the Environmental Education Lab has pathways accessible to wheelchairs and hosts events year-round. The National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, a National Park Service program, recently listed two additional Michigan sites, the Erastus and Sarah Hussey Store and House and Oak Hill Cemetery where Perry Sanford is buried. Women start new lives with drug court graduation

ESCANABA — The Delta County Circuit Court was packed on Wednesday night, but not for any ordinary court proceedings. Instead, three individuals were celebrated as they graduated from the Delta County Drug/Sobriety Court. “This is my favorite thing that I get to do,” said 94th District Court Judge Steven C. Parks.
