By Journal Staff

MARENISCO — A suspect is lodged in a Wisconsin jail following a pursuit that involved several law-enforcement agencies.

At 10:56 a.m. Monday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, and deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff s Office were dispatched to an address in Marenisco on a report of a domestic disturbance and malicious destruction of property complaint involving a 31-year-old male suspect, MSP said in a news release.

While enroute to the scene, additional information was obtained that the suspect was discharging a firearm at or near the residence. Responding officers arrived and learned the suspect had left the residence prior to their arrival. A short time later, the suspect returned to the residence and when confronted by law enforcement, the suspect fired a shot toward a nearby residence.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and a pursuit was initiated. MSP Wakefield troopers, Gogebic County sheriff’s deputies, Watersmeet Township officers and Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers pursued the vehicle into Vilas County, Wisconsin, where Wisconsin State Patrol troopers and Vilas County sheriff’s deputies assisted.

Stop sticks were deployed and effectively deflated the suspect’s vehicle tires. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries to the public, law enforcement or the suspect. The suspect is currently lodged in the Vilas County Jail on a charge of flee and elude, and is awaiting extradition back to Michigan for additional charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
