NIAGARA, Wis. — A man who eluded capture after barricading himself in a Niagara residence Monday evening has been arrested, authorities announced late Wednesday.

Joshua Otto, 43, is in the Marinette County Jail in Marinette, Wis., on charges of sexual assault of a child, child enticement, felony bail jumping, and resisting/obstructing law enforcement as well as felony and misdemeanor drug charges, Niagara Police Chief Angela Moreau said in a news release.

At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Niagara Police officers apprehended Otto on Don Chapman Road in the town of Niagara, Moreau stated in the release.

Information obtained during and since the execution of a search warrant Monday on River Street in the city of Niagara led officers to Otto’s place of hiding, she said. An undercover officer located Otto in an abandoned cabin approximately a quarter-mile from the rural road and took him into custody without incident.

Additional charges may be filed in the coming days pending additional interviews and other investigative procedures yet to be completed, Moreau said.

When officers tried to serve the warrant Monday, Otto reportedly barricaded himself in a Niagara residence for hours and could not be found when law enforcement eventually gained access to the home, Moreau had reported earlier.

That standoff began about 5 p.m. Monday on the 1800 block of River Street. It forced traffic to be rerouted around the Wisconsin-Michigan border community until late into the night.
