Plant sale slated this weekend

MENOMINEE — West Shore Fishing Museum is holding a Heritage Plant Sale on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Central Time. Offered for sale will be perennials from the museum gardens that are ready to thrive in our climate. A wide variety of day lilies and many other bee-friendly choices will be available. This year there are no annuals or vegetables for sale.

The museum is open to visitors every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge for this family friendly site; donations are gratefully accepted.

Step into history by visiting the restored Victorian home and two exhibit buildings portraying the fishing life from prehistoric times through the 1950’s. The displays, which include a large number of local photographs, offer an intriguing glance at the life lived up and down the shores of Green Bay and other Great Lakes coastal areas.

The grounds of the museum include flower gardens, six commercial fishing boats including the restored gill net boat Kate A and the trap net boat Mary Kay. A unique flagpole stands at high water line. Visitors can walk expanded nature trails to enjoy the bay and the woods. The vintage Gift Shop features treasures of bygone eras. West Shore Fishing Museum is located on M-35, 15 miles north of Menominee or 8 miles south of Cedar River adjacent to Bailey Park. Drive into Bailey Park at either entrance and turn left on the gravel road inside the park. At the north end of the park, follow the shady lane into the museum grounds.
