Kingsford woman found guilty of drug charges

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Kingsford woman accused of selling methamphetamine was found guilty June 2 after a two-day jury trial in Dickinson County Circuit Court.

Julie Miller, 40, was convicted of the delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance as a four-time habitual offender, according to a news release from the Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office and KIND Drug Enforcement Team.

The delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, but as a four-time habitual offender, Miller could face up to life in prison. KIND officers arrested Miller for selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant during a controlled transaction on Sept. 1.

Miller pleaded not guilty to the charge after waiving arraignment Feb. 16. The not-guilty plea was entered on Miller’s behalf by Dickinson County Circuit Judge Christopher Ninomiya.

Evidence in the case included testimony from the confidential informant and KIND officers from Kingsford Public Safety, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iron Mountain Police Department, the release stated.

The jury deliberated for about an hour and a half before returning the guilty verdict.

Judge Ninomiya presided over the trial, with Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alex Sieminski representing the prosecution and Dan Jaspen as Miller’s defense attorney.

Sentencing is set for July 19.
