Haeusler scholarship established

Richard Haeusler

MARQUETTE — The Richard Haeusler Memorial Science Scholarship was recently established at Bay College to assist a full-time freshman student pursuing a degree in science.

Haeusler was a biology and math professor at Bay College for over 30 years. He was also the chairman of the mathematics/science division before retiring in June 2000. Haeusler “supported and encouraged many students throughout his life and took pride in helping students succeed,” according to organizers.

He passed away in November 2020 and his family created a scholarship at Bay College in his memory “to continue his legacy and belief in higher education,” officials said in a news release.

This scholarship will be awarded annually in his name.

“It was fitting to create a scholarship at Bay College since our father worked there for many years and strongly believed in higher education,” Aaron Haeusler, a son of Richard Haeusler, said in a news release.

“It makes our family happy to know we are helping a science student each year and supporting our father’s passion.”

Bay College students can apply for over 300 scholarships online at www.baycollege.edu/scholarships. Founded in 1972, the Bay College Foundation connects businesses, organizations and individuals to investments in higher education.
