Woman stabbed over loose dog

CALUMET — A 27-year-old female was stabbed at McLain’s State Park in Houghton County Saturday after an altercation occurred over a dog running on the beach.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post responded to the altercation, which led the female suspect to pull a knife on the victim and stab the victim twice. The victim suffered a large laceration to the abdomen area and a small puncture wound to the bicep. The injuries were not life threatening but did require immediate medical attention. The victim was transported to Aspirus Hospital in Calumet by Mercy ambulance where she was treated.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and lodged at the Houghton County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect’s name will not be released until she is arraigned in 97th District Court of Houghton County.
