Police investigate drowning

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an Iron Mountain woman who drowned at the Vagabond Park Boat Launch in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, Saturday afternoon.

The 52-year-old woman had returned to the boat launch after a boat ride with an acquaintance. The male party parked the boat and tied it up at the dock then went to the parking lot area to retrieve his vehicle and trailer. The woman stayed on the dock holding the rope for the boat. When the male party returned a few minutes later, he found the woman floating face down in the water at the end of the dock. He got the woman out of the water and began CPR. A man from another boat arriving at the launch area assisted the male performing CPR.

The woman was transported to Dickinson County Hospital by Beacon Ambulance where she was later pronounced dead.

The name of the victim will not be released until the family is notified. The incident remains under investigation and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
