Police find drowning victim’s body

HARDWOOD — The body of Alex McDermott, 28, of Felch was recovered Sunday after he had been reported missing after jumping off a pontoon boat on June 29 in the East Branch Sturgeon River at Stromberg Park in Hardwood.

Michigan State Police stated that for the next several days after McDermott was reported missing, agencies searched for him with no success.

On Sunday, citizens on the shore observed something floating in the water. After checking to see what it was, they discovered it was the victim.

McDermott was recovered and transported from the scene to Dickinson County Hospital.
