Luce County police chase McMillan man up a tree

McMILLAN — After he fled from police during a traffic stop, a man was found hiding in a tree stand in the woods south of McMillan and arrested by the Luce County Sheriff’s Department Monday.

Around 2:45 p.m., a Luce County deputy pulled over a vehicle and informed the driver of a circuit court order issued against him. The deputy then attempted to take the suspect, a 22-year-old man from McMillan, into custody when he fled the scene and proceeded south on County Road 405. Law enforcement attempted to box in the suspect near Teaspoon Creek, but he then rammed into two patrol cars, disabling one and causing damage to the other.

The suspect then turned westbound on M-28 and returned to his residence west of McMillan where he drove behind his home and proceeded to flee on foot into the woods.

A K-9 handler from the United States Border Patrol arrived on scene to assist in the search.

The subject was found hiding in a tree stand south of McMillan where he was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m.

The Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, Luce County 911 coordinator and the U.S. Border Patrol all assisted the Luce County Sheriff’s Office.
