Grenade found in Gogebic County

BESSEMER — Areas in Bessemer were closed Wednesday to traffic after the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad responded to a report of a possible hand grenade in the area, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies who responded to the area “did find what appeared to be an old hand grenade that had been submerged for some time” near the Powdermill Creek at Eli Avenue in Bessemer, police said.

The area was closed to traffic for safety reasons. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene from Grayling and the grenade was rendered safe, officials said.
