Fatal snowmobile, vehicle collision

MARQUETTE — The driver of a snowmobile is dead following an accident in Houghton County Thursday involving a snowmobile and a motor vehicle, according to the Michigan State Police Calumet Post.

The accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. Thursday when Timothy Young, 53, of Houghton, was traveling south on Trail No. 3 in Franklin Township and “failed to yield to traffic” while crossing Lake Annie Road.

Young was then struck by a 2001 Subaru driven by Stephen Wright, 21, of Atlantic Mine.

Although “life-saving efforts were performed by responders at the scene,” Young succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Wright was uninjured in the crash.
