Man dies in submerged vehicle

MIDDLE INLET, Wis. — A man is dead after his truck went through the ice Friday on Lake Noquebay in Marinette County, Wisconsin.

Marinette County Dispatch at 8:55 p.m. Friday received a call of a vehicle that possibly had gone through the ice on the north side of Lake Noquebay off Maple Beach Road. The call came from a fisherman on his way off the lake who had spotted open water and a cooler floating. Once safely on shore, he called for help.

Sheriff’s deputies, the Middle Inlet Fire Department and Crivitz Rescue were dispatched to the scene as well as the Stephenson Fire Department with its air boat. From the boat and by using an underwater camera, deputies could see a red truck and a body of a male partially out of the vehicle on the bottom in about 12 feet of water.

Sheriff’s dive team members later recovered the body of an elderly male who the office believes was alone in his truck when it went through the ice. The Marinette County deputy coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
