Car crashes into school bus

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Wednesday afternoon to a two-car property damage crash between a car and a Marquette Area Public School bus. At the time of the crash, the school bus had 15 students on board. The deputy arrived on scene and found no injuries with anyone involved in the crash, according to a release issued Wednesday by the sheriff’s office.

Upon further investigation it was found the school bus was preparing to come to a stop and had its yellow overhead flashing lights activated. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old female from Marquette, stated she had not noticed the bus was coming to a stop and attempted to apply the brakes to her vehicle, however, she was unable to stop, the release states.

The car then struck the rear of the school bus causing significant damage to the driver’s vehicle and little damage to the school bus. The Marquette area woman was cited for careless driving and released at the scene.
