Spring Creek man ID’d as avalanche victim

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The Elko County Sheriff’s Office has identified the snowmobiler who was killed in an avalanche in the Ruby Mountains over the weekend as a 19-year-old Spring Creek man.

Ethan Lulay’s body was recovered Sunday after a brief closure of Lamoille Canyon southeast of Elko, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

He had been snowmobiling with two other men Saturday morning near Castle Lake in the mountains above the canyon in the Ruby Mountain Wilderness Area when the avalanche occurred.

One suffered a broken leg and clavicle and was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital for treatment.

The other man was able to call for help shortly before noon.

The other names have not been released.

Sheriff Aitor Narvaiza said earlier they are from the local area.
