Explosive devices twice detonated safely

NIAGARA, Wis. — Explosive devices were handled twice this week, Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reported.

Sauve said that the sheriff’s office enlisted the help of the Brown-Outagamie County Bomb Squad to detonate dangerous blasting caps.

The first incident occurred on Army Lane in Stephenson. The second incident, which occurred on Van Ginkel Road in Niagara, Wisconsin, involved 90 blasting caps in an outbuilding. There is no current threat to the public as the potentially dangerous materials were disposed of by professionals.

The sheriff’s office urges the public to be aware and watchful of any suspicious or potentially dangerous explosive devices while cleaning outbuildings and surrounding property. Other devices and dynamite are known to be unstable and volatile.

Anyone who comes across such items is asked to contact the Marinette County Dispatch Center at 715-732-7627.
