Woman dies after being injured in Keweenaw snowmobile accident
CENTRAL — A woman has died from injuries received in a Jan. 2 snowmobile crash in Central, the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office said.
The office reported that at 5:10 p.m. that day, deputies responded to a personal injury snowmobile trash on Trail No. 3 near Gratiot Lake Road where 25-year-old Sutton Beck of Hartford, Wisconsin, was traveling southbound. She lost control of her snowmobile, left the trail and hit a tree.
Beck was extricated from the scene by Ahmeek Fire-Keweenaw County Sheriff Off-Road Rescue and transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy EMS. She was transported to a hospital in Duluth, Minnesota where she died from her injuries.
The sheriff’s office said the county has seen an increase in snowmobile-related injuries this year, and Sheriff Curt Pennala reminds riders to be careful.
“Please ride at a safe speed and remain cautious, especially when riding areas that you are not familiar with,” Pennala said in a news release.
Neither speed nor alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office crash investigator.
