Police look for man on Lake Erie

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Rescue crews searched Sunday for a 51-year-old Michigan man after a 16-foot fishing boat flipped over on Lake Erie in Monroe Township, authorities said.

Another boater, a 28-year-old Monroe resident, was rescued from the water and hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries earlier in the day, according to the Monroe County sheriff’s office.

Deputies were dispatched around 7:45 a.m. Sunday to check for two people on a fishing boat that was roughly one mile from shore, but were initially unable to find the boat. It was found after the other boater was rescued, about a mile off shore, upside down and tangled in a fishing net, authorities said.

Authorities didn’t release the boaters’ names.

Multiple agencies were assisting in the search including the U.S. Coast Guard, Monroe Township Fire Department and City of Monroe Fire Department.
