After 30 years, time capsule lost

COLOMA, Mich. (AP) — Ex-classmates in Michigan reunited to uncover a time capsule they buried 30 years ago only to be unable to find it.

The Herald-Palladium reports the seven classmates and two teachers spent two hours looking Sunday outside Coloma Junior High in southwestern Michigan.

Tracy Gilmer says she remembers putting a Michael Jackson cassette in the box along with assignments the students did in an accelerated writing and reasoning program, including potentially a flag for a made-up country.

A teacher, Sandi Sanders, says information about the capsule was filed away, never to be seen again.

Coloma Superintendent Dave Ehlers says work was done to alleviate flooding behind the school and the box may be gone. The group may next search for a metal detector that can detect metal deeper in the ground.
